The concept of the vibrant urban village has superseded the traditional suburban foundations of inner-city Brisbane. Yes, parts of the city such as Paddington and Rosalie, Ascot and Hamilton, Bulimba, Hawthorne and Milton have long enjoyed a reputation for an attractive combination of rejuvenated residential, boutique retail and eclectic dining. Now, however, an evolving process of further gentrification across Brisbane has not only brought improvements to these more established inner- and near-city communities, but also added a new lease on life to other older suburbs.

GROWTH SPUR MAKES BRISBANE THE FASTEST GROWING CITY IN THE WORLD

Brisbane will grow faster than any other ‘mature’ world city over the next eight years, according to an international study compiled by market analysts Jones Lang LaSalle. The only other Australian city to make the list, which comprises of cities with a “mature property market” and a population of more than 1 million, was eighth-placed Perth.

Brisbane is experiencing a residential building boom, with cranes dotted across a skyline that features an ever-increasing number of high-rise apartment blocks. NICAD Developments, which builds blocks of up to 20 units, mostly in Brisbane’s inner-north, said concerns about a potential unit glut had scared off some buyers, who were worried their purchases could be worth significantly less in just a few years.
